Mt. Hopkins, at the top is the Whipple
Observatory.
The target of the day, 1/9/99.
For Purple Mountains Majesty
I am at the 5000' level looking to Mexico.
Here is the bike. I am at the 6000'
looking Northwest. Now at the 6500'
looking north.
Not far from the top at the 7000'. This is the south side
of the mountain. Notice the lack of vegetation.
I am near the top now at the 8000' level. 8550'
is the elevation of the Observatory. They paved the road for the next 500'
of elevation as the trip is too steep to get much traction. It is almost
like driving on marbles. The Gate was closed but I knew that before I went
up there. You have to schedule a tour or visitation to the site via
the Smithsonian Institute Visitors Center at the bottom. (Yes, it is the
same as the museum in Washington D.C)
If you lived in Arizona
and you wanted to go riding
with me on this day, 1/9/99, we would have conquered
the
mountain together.
