The (not so) Weekly Report
[ ]
Wow. It's been a while, huh? I'm going to be doing some work on the pages
here but not a whole lot at first. I've moved to Denver, I'm looking for work
as a software engineer, and my fiancee broke up with me... yeah, so life sucks.
But other than all that I'm doing pretty good. I'm going to get D8 uploaded
to my web pages, so that it is handy for those of you who require it. I think
I'll be doing some work on that in the months to come. Life has pulled me back
to RPGs, so I think I'll delve into that some more.
Programming for fun should be kicking in too. I may be doing work on some
character generator type things, or possibly a MOO-like Java game. No idea
yet but I need to keep my mind occupied.
And, as a reward for those of you who actually read this page, you
can get a sneak preview of the new
D8-White (it's been updated a little bit!) And what the hell - check out
a new new
D8-Blue and the new
D8-Violet
WANTED: JAVA PROGRAMMERS
If I get help doing this, the work will progress much faster. I intend to
write a lot of the main GUI and most of the character- related classes.
What I'd really like help doing is in writing auxilliary components -
things like a skill manager, a spell manager, etc. that aren't essential
to a working program but awfully nice to have.
These qualifications are must-haves:
- An intent to help out, not a 'this might be cool' attitude.
Dedication is an absolute necessity, because if I can't rely
on you I won't waste anyone's time.
- At least a year of Java programming with a good understanding of:
- Interfaces
- Vector, Hashtable, and Properties
- Swing components & Java 2
- Good understanding of OO programming, especially polymorphism. I
intend to make sure we have a plan as to where we are going - no
'flying by the seat of your pants' coding.
- You are avaliable 2-5 hours per week to work on this project. More
is great but not expected because that is about what I am limited
to myself.
Some things that will make you stand out among others:
- You currently are attending college for a CS degree or are a professional
software engineer.
- Experience using XML as an IO format and as a means of representing data structures.
- Experience with writing parsers for CFG's
- Familiarity with design patterns.
Please don't send me any code samples or resumes. What I'd like for you to
do is send me a URL to your resume (or a list of Java courses you've taken)
and some Java code you have written. If you can't do this but have the
qualifications I listed above, tell me and we'll work something out.
