Homework Assigned NOTE:  This writing assignment is a take home test and will be part of your score for the test on Friday.  You are President of the United States and are faced with the decision of using the atomic bomb on Japan.  In 3 paragraphs or one page:  (A) Explain to me whether you agree with the dropping of the atomic bombs (little boy) Hiroshima and (Fat Man) Nagasaki.  (B) Explain to me if you would do anything different than President Truman.  Why or why not?  C) As President what would you do and why? Can you justify dropping both bombs?  Are their other methods that the United States could use in attacking Japan?  Write the pros and cons for using the bomb and justify using the bomb or explain why other methods are more favorable.  Think about why the U.S. dropped the bomb.

Option #1: Write a final draft of a one page essay in class that explains a historical time period in which they would like to live or experience.  Students will also write a final draft of a one page essay in class that explains a historical time period in which they would NOT like to live or experience.  See Final Asessemnt handout for full details and scoring guidelines.

Option #2:  Write a final draft of a TWO page essay in class taht explains why they think a particular historical time period or event is the most important or memorable.  See Final Assessment handout for full details and scoring guidelines.
