9-5-02 Game Highlights
Kekoa.  Mustangs were late!!!  Coach was not happy!!

Being a player short to start and with no warmup, the Mustangs played mediocre.  Cassie didn't get a chance to warm up as goalie and it probably cost us a goal.

When our eleventh player did show up, it made quite a difference.  Our attack was much more solid with 3 attackers instead of just two.  At 18 minutes into the first half, Joy sent a ball forward into the penalty area, the fullback was not able to control it and the ball bounced off her leg.  Baker pounced on the richocet and fired one into the net.  About a minute later, Jackie got a great defensive clear that Baker ran down and got another score.  Kekoa countered with a score a few minutes before halftime.

In the second half, Kekoa pressured but Joy held her ground and cleaned up all the balls that got thru the defense.

With just minutes remaining in the game, Kim kicked the ball forward, Baker ran onto it and scored a hat-trick.

Baker and Ashlee did a great job of passing to each other and also pressuring and attacking.  Kim finally moved forward in the forward spot and contributed well at the end.  Ashlee had several controlling headers.  Some other players also used their heads.

Courtney did a fine job as center half.  Tracee was terrific as left fullback.  Heidi and Jackie were again superb as sweeper and stopper.  Danielle positioned herself well and cleared many balls.  She is one of the more sure-footed players on the team.

9-11-02 Game Highlights
Compies.  We are starting to get some headers.  Tracee played well in her first time as goalie.  The Compies played well.  They're strong, aggressive and fast.
They scored at the 28th minute, just before half.  Baker got a breakaway minutes into the 2nd half, but the Compies got another score that the Mustangs couldn't counter.  It was a hard fought, valiant effort by both squads.

9-14-02 Game Highlights
Rampage.  Mustangs looked good in their white jerseys.  There just weren't enough of them.  We started with 9 players, held them scoreless and even pressured the goal occasionally.  We got a 10th player at 15 minutes, but them Rampage scored.  Maybe we should have stuck with 9.  Well, the designated scorer Baker was able to even the score 4 minutes later.  One minute before half, Baker fought to get the ball at midfield, kicked a 30-yard dribble, chased the ball down, shot and scored.  It was a marvelous effort by Baker.

The toll of playing short took too much out of the Mustangs.  Except for a few brief moments, the attack was pretty anemic in the 2nd half.  Rampage was able to tie the score 5 minutes into the second half for what turned out to be the last score.

Elise and Ashlee had headers.  Elise had a solid game as sweeper.  She also had some good corner kicks.  One, she lifted to Courney, who took an immediate shot.  The goalie stretched and barely got it.  Very nice corner kick execution.

A down moment, right at the end of the game: Courtney received a rocket to the face that knocked her off her feet.  She didn't get up for some time.  The ref called the game as there were only 10 seconds left.  After checking for dilated pupils, dislocated vertebra, ice packing, and movement of limbs, she was able to sit and finally stand.  We hope she recovers quickly.  I'm sure she will at least get some really good bruises.

9-18-02 Game Highlights
Strikers.  At about the 5 minute mark, Baker passed to Tracee who passed back to Baker who shot and scored.  Very nice passing.  At the 13-minute mark, Baker passed to Tracee who scored.

In the 1st minute of the 2nd half, Baker stole the ball at midfield, made 3 nice control touch dribbles up the field, shot and scored!  3 minutes later, Joy put on a dribbling exhibition, got a shot and nailed it.  At the 15-minute mark, Shrimp made a nice run up the right side, beat the defender, wasn't chanllenged by the remaining players, took her shot and scored -- GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!  At the 22 minute mark, Ashlee won the ball on the left side.  Noone challenged her so she dribbled in, she took her shot.  The goalie could not catch it so she knocked it away.  Baker was perfectly positioned, got the rebound and nailed the shot back in.  Jackie had a break away with one minute left but she cleared the ball right over the goal.  It was great to have more scorers than just Baker.

Allyse had a very nice header.  Ashlee continues to do headers too.  Courtney tried a new position -- stopper and did very well.  Elise was solid, as usual, at fullback.  Heidi played quite a bit of sweeper and did fine.  Cassie had a good clearing kick.  Danielle played center forward almost the entire 2nd half.  Shewas tripped in the penalty area and should have gotten a penalty kick call, but the center referee was brand new and wasn't up to making the call.  Baker played center half and did an excellent job.

Coach was VERY PROUD of his Mustangs.  They dribbled when they were open; they made through passes when the defenders came.  The forwards passed the ball unselfishly.

Deborah was a good linesman.  It was her first time.

9-21-02 Game Highlights
Kekoa. This last 5 minutes:  Jackie controlled, dribbled and passed to Baker.  Baker passed to Ashlee.  Ashlee passed back to Baker who scored!!!
Just a few minutes later, Baker passed to Ashlee who dribbled up and scored.  A really good last 5 minutes.

9-28-02 Game Highlights
Compies. Outstanding goalie play by Amy in the first half and Tracee in the second half -- a combined shutout.

10-02-02 Game Highlights
Rampage.  The outstanding achievement of the first half was the goal play of Richards.  It's great to have a competent player excited about playing goalie.  She stopped 2 or 3 point blank shots.

In the second half, we had the wind blowing with us instead of against us.  It made a big difference.  We pressured the Rampage goal repeatedly.  At the 14 minute mark, Amy centered to Baker who got a good shot and nailed it.  3 minutes later, Jackie had a free kick that the goalie did the best she could to barely reach and stop from going in.  All she could do was block it.  After a bounce or two, Baker got it and scored again.  After that Rampage started pushing up trying to score.  It meant that when Baker got the ball a few minutes later she had far few defenders to beat.  A good dribble past the sweeper and it was Baker versus the goalie.  No contest -- Baker scores a hat trick.

Amy supplied excellent pressure from the left forward position.  Tracee made several stops as fullback.  Heidi was continually in the right position as sweeper.  Elise played very well as center halfback.  At one point, I counted 4 passes in a row from a Mustang player to another Mustang player!  Less kick ball.  It was great.  Jackie is starting to get the hang of stopper.

10-05-02 Game Highlights
Strikers. Deborah coaches.  Baker scores.  Ashlee passes to Baker who scores on a breakaway.

10-10-02 Game Highlights
Kekoa.  Kekoa scores first on a long shot by Claire.  3 minutes later, Baker steals the goal kick, does 2 quick touch dribbles, shoots and scores.

Early in the second half, Kekoa has a point blank shot, but Red stops it.  With seconds remaining, Baker gets a shot and scores.

10-19-02 Game Highlights
Compies.  Ashlee at fullback fights and wins the ball.  She passes it up to Amy who shoots, the rebound comes to Kim who scores.  Nice teamwork.  One minute later Baker passes to Amy who scores.  A great start but with no subs, Mustangs got tired.  They could no longer supply good pressure on the goal, and didn't cover as well as needed and Compies got a score.

Compies scored again in the second half to tie the score.  A few minutes later, coach told Jackie to trap the goal kick, control it and score.  She did.  Coach told all the Mustangs to follow coach's instructions like Jackie did.  The Mustangs were unable to stop another attack by the Compies later that tied the score 3-3.  The Mustangs tried valiantly in the last 5 minutes to get another score, but it just wasn't there.  Congratulations Compies on a probable first place finish.
