DrgnLord.zip (1.27 Megs - version 3.8).
Hi! above is DragonLord, a game written by Mark Silcox and programmed by me!. Play it and let us know what you think! Send any feedback on the story content to Mark Silcox. Send any feedback on the game engine to me at gainaz@uswest.net
Version 3.8 bug fixes/improvements:
- Spelling/grammar errors corrected.
Version 3.8 features:
- No fancy uninstallation needed: all files needed to run the game are put in the same directory.
- Doubleclicks are treated the same as single clicks.
- Credits screen accessible from main menu.
- Multiple player characters allowed each with his/her own inventories, status, etc. (e.g. in DragonLord, Lord Winston and Ambrose Folley are separate characters, each with his own HP and inventory).
- Game can switch perspective from one character to another.
- Player can store multiples of items (up to 9). Item count parameter will not increase beyond that point.
- A separate Inventory screen, showing all items player has and how many of each.
- Currently, an item type limit of 26 (NOTE: This means that only 26 types of items, total are allowed in the game). In other words, a player can have a maximum of 9 of item A, 9 of item B, 9 of item C ... 9 of item Z. This may be increased in future.
- Runs fine on Win95/Win98/WinNT. (Macintosh version may be made in distant future :-)
- DirectX NOT needed.
- 640x480,800x600 or 1024x768 screen resolution recommended, but will work on any screen size resoultion (since window size is static, it'll just look smaller on a larger screen resolution).
- Three options given per scenario.
- Once health runs to 0 (or below 0), the game ends. A "game over" message is displayed.
- Ability to save and load games.
- Health points that may increase or decrease depending on how the player makes choices.
- Ability to set "flags" when certain key events occur.
- Branching scenarios depending on flags set.
- Branching scenarios depending on what items player has.
- Above two features allow player to move from one "area" to another and "back" (e.g. in DragonLord, Folley can navigate around the village)
- Versions 3.1 and upwards consist of many small files rather than 1 large executable.
What I will add in future versions:
- Better graphics (the pot is just a placeholder)
- Replace the text buttons with graphical buttons.
- Fonts that are more pleasing to the eye (especially the title font). The fonts choosen will depend on the kind of game the writer creates.
- Music
- Animated cutscenes. (Warning - I can't draw worth a lick)
- Anything else you suggest that I think is cool and feasible for me to create. :-)
