Pictures of Dar Morev Yankee Red Witch

Yankee's name came about because we wanted a nautical name. Yankee comes from Irving Johnson's famous ship Yankee, and also refers to her Northeastern origins. Red Witch is for the fictional schooner in the movie Wake of the Red Witch, and also refers to her color and occasional crankiness. Like me, Yankee lives up to stereotypes of redheaded temper!   Yankee’s father is Ch. Cooncreole Skagit of Dar Morev, and her mother is Ch. Gregridge Lightfoot of Dar Morev.Yankee was born in April 1996, and came home with us that summer, when I lost my Fractal to diabetes.Yankee was our first pedigreed cat; we’d both wanted a Maine Coon for years.Yankee is a red classic tabby with white.

The Maine Coon is thought to have evolved from cats brought from Northern Europe onboard ships as rodent control officers. It is North America's only natural native breed. They are very large, friendly, intelligent cats. A person owned by a Maine Coon never does anything alone; they will follow you to the bathroom, to the kitchen, accompany you while you cook, offer “assistance” in bedmaking and working on the computer, may very well join you in the shower, and generally get underfoot and embedded in your heart. For more information on the breed, check the Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association / website.

Pictures of our second Maine Coon, Pinecoon Cap'n Jim Hawkcoons

Cap'n Jim, who we call Cappy or KittyCap, was born August 1999, and came home with us in December.  Cappy's mother is CH Coonyham Santa Fe of Pinecoon, and his father is SGC Coonmora Hot Shot of Pinecoon, both quite wonderful cats, with delightful temperaments.  He has the most wonderful "purr"sonality of any kitten imaginable.  When he grows into his HUGE ears and feet, we expect he'll be quite a large fellow indeed! Cappy’s name is a play on the character in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, Jim Hawkins.Cappy is a brown classic tabby with very little white.

Pictures of our third Maine Coon, Coonmora's Friendly Fire

Fire is a third-generation foundation cat, and was originally purchased from Connie Zimmerman of Coonmora by Betsy Tinney of Pinecoon as a breeding male.  Unfortunately, Fire did not adapt well to the hormonal changes of puberty, and became very frightened of the other breeding males, and intimidated by the breeding females, and just generally unhappy with being a whole male.  Betsy made the very humane, albeit very costly, decision to have him neutered, and kindly allowed him to come live with us as a pet.  He has adjusted amazingly well, and he and Cappy are the best of friends.  Fire is a red classic tabby without white.
