Most recently some Tierney relatives found me. They had a lot of cool pictures. Some are here.

My grandmother, on my father's side, was a
Tierney. While I search for more on the Gibson's side, it was fairly easy to see
that the Tierney immigrated from Ireland. One of problems with the Irish
Immigration was the sheer numbers, and of course my Tierney's came over in the
height of this immigration. It would seem that searching immigration
records, ship's passenger lists, is difficult.
So how did I find Lot (or Lott or Lotte) Tierney? My Aunt Betty Jane had a
little black book of names of dates of some relatives. And the earliest census,
from 1870, Osborn, Ohio, provides confirmation. This census data shows
that John was born in Massachusetts, as does Betty's book.
If we look at the 1930 census, we now find the Tierney's living in a familiar Dayton location. Note that John, the eldest, is living next door to his dad, while Lott's youngest, is living with him.
I now had enough information to ask for Lotte's Death certificate, and with the help of the Dayton Public Library, I got it:
The Dayton Public Library was very helpful, and asked if I also wanted Lotte's naturalization and immigration papers:
