The
Convention
.
I was fortunate enough to get to go to the 1996 X-Files convention
in Seattle on October 13, yes that is 10-13. Anyway, the day started
out with a big line going through the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. As
soon as it reached the hour they let us into the auditorium which had many
black seats all pointed towards a giant screen. After 15 minutes of nervous
waiting someone came up on stage and told us the usual no cameras or recording
devices. The whole day had been rigorously planned which only a small break,
which means that if you wanted to see any of the other stuff, you had to
skip someone's speech or video presentation. Believe me there was some
boring parts which gave me a chance to see the room which all the merchandise
that was for sale from mostly independent stands. There was some neat stuff
such as the shirt stand which had many types of shirts to buy, and the
official fan club booth which you could sign up at. I never got a chance
to see the prop museum because the line was so long, and that is something
that I really regret. Here is the schedule for the rest of the day:
.
11:40 AM - "The
X-Files" : a look a the series that we came here for.
11:50 AM - "The
X-Files" Slide show : a look at many of the show's episodes.
12:15 PM - The Paranormal
: a music video salute to the X-Files.
12:20 PM - Millennium
: a brief clip from the new series.
12:30 PM - Mulderisms/Scullyisms
: a special compilation of moments from the show.
12:45 PM - Intermission
1:30 PM - "Truth
or Fiction?" : people can compete against other X-Philes for prizes.
1:50 PM - Robert
Goodwin : meet the producer/director of the series.
2:25 PM - "Mulder
and Scully" : a music video tribute to the relationship of the agents.
2:30 PM - "The X-Files"
Trivia Contest : Win great prizes by showing your knowledge.
2:50 PM - "The X-Files"
Auction : a auction for the benefit of the J.D.F.
3:15 PM - Dean Haglund
: an X-Files based routine from the comedian/actor.
4:00 PM - The Blooper
Reel : the funniest goof ups from the show.
4:15 PM - Mitch
Pileggi : Meet the man who is Skinner.
5:00 PM - Autographs
from the three celebrities.
.
Let me tell you that by far the best part of the convention was the routine
by the Lone Gunmen's Dean Haglund. It was absolutely drop dead funny. The
part where Mitch Pileggi
spoke, was not as
good as I thought it would be because he had a cold and could hardly speak.
At a little bit after 5:00 PM the place shut down, and I had to say good-bye
to one hell of a good day.
