STUDENTS

There's plenty of other stuff to do online.  A good place to start would be Yahooligans, which features lots of kids-safe places to go and things to do.  This would even make a good home page for students to begin their Internet sessions.

Doing a research project?  Need to find somewhere to start? Searchopolis has listings in LOTS of different categories, and their reference section is impressive. Much of its research subjects are geared to upper grades. Homework Help is a good site organized by subject.  You'll learn how to write bibliographies from Internet sites, and there's also a list of links to other great homework help sites.

Another useful site for both parents and students is Big Chalk.com.  They have a large database filled with useful information. It's well-organized, easy to follow, and there's something for everyone, including teachers!

But life isn't ALL work, right?  If you're a "toonie" like myself, be sure to check out  The Cartoon Network .

Be sure to check out my Animation Page page for lots of great Simpsons sites!

For something a little more out of the ordinary, there's also Aardman Animations.

Click on the guy waving and see what's new.  You can also check out the first full-length feature from Aardman Animations called "Chicken Run", an animated adventure featuring the voice of Mel Gibson.

Do you like Math?  Even if you don't, you're bound to like the Fractals included here.  Learn what a fractal is, how they're created, and view thousands of pictures of these unique designs.

Sharon Webb has a site that includes 3D Fractals.  See how math meets art with these unique images.

There's Sprott's Fractal Gallery, featuring thousands of images.  .  Don't forget to view "fractals in nature" at the bottom of the page!

Paul Bourkehas an interesting site featuring fractals.  You can "walk" through a virtual gallery of images.  Click on the picture to enter.

Finally, there's the Fractal Land, which features lots of cool pictures and sounds with fractals.
Want to learn more about fractals?  Or see some made by other kids?  Go to Cool Math.com and learn how to make a fractal of your own!

PARENTS

This is the main website for Aurora Public Schools.  From this website you can link to all the other schools in the district that have school websites.  See what's new with APS today!
There's links to my old school,  Side Creek Elementary , my new school, APS Quest Academy,  job openings, and just about everything else associated with APS.

This past year, schools throughout the district had an opportunity to choose a new reading program.  These new Reading/Literacy programs are designed to meet the needs of all students, create an understanding of reading, and prepare schools for  the CSAP and other standardized tests.

At Arkansas Elementary we chose to implement the Scott Foresman reading series next year.  You can find out more about this publisher at their official website.  There's a "curriculum corner" that allows visitors to learn more about the Foresman series.

Houghton-Mifflin is another giant publisher of textbooks and guides that many schools are adopting next year.  Their website, called Eduplace.com is filled with information for teachers, parents, and students.  Their database is ENORMOUS!!  The main menu has links to just about any topic.

Teaching primary grades ( K-2 ) offers a very different set of challenges.  Students are beginning to acquire language and reading skills.  Finding the right book for these emergent readers is crucial.  The Wright Group specializes in language arts materials for primary grades.  Their website offers some more information about this company.

Interested in what other districts around Colorado are up to?  Check out the home pages of other Colorado school districts.  Two of the biggest school districts in Colorado are  Jefferson County Schools  and  Douglas County Schools . Inside the city limits is Denver Public Schools.  It's interesting to see what other district home pages look like!  To find any other school district in Colorado, there's a  clickable map of Colorado that includes only the essential text about each district in the state, along with contact info. for schools.

Want to go straight to the source?  At the top of the educational food chain in Colorado is the Colorado Department of Education .  You'll get all the news in education in Colorado straight from the source.  From CSAP scores to listing of districts, it's all here.
