We all know teaching can be difficult.  But it can be made easier by knowing where to go for ideas, discussions, and lesson plans.  Included below is a list of websites that I've visited and have found to be very useful.  I hope you do, too!!

Apple Computers has been an integral part of education in the 90s.  Most school have Macs available to teachers and students, beginning in kindergarten through high school.   The folks at Apple realize this, and have developed a place called APPLE LEARNING INTERCHANGE for teachers to go for excellent information.  From collaborative discussion forums to lesson plan sharing, and just about anything else a teacher might need, this is the place to begin. Sign up for FREE and have access to a wealth of information!

Classroom Connect's "Connected Teacher"  This is a particular page within Classroom Connect's HUGE website.  It's a good resource for teachers.  You'll find discussions, lesson plans, and ideas for professional teachers.  It's also filled with links to other great sites, more than can be included here.

Discovery Channel School This website is part of The Discovery Channel.  The main categories on this page are TEACHERS, STUDENTS, and PARENTS.  Within each is a wealth of valuable information.  Students can get help with homework, play games, or explore.  Parents can get tips on the best educational software and learn how to help with homework.  Teachers can get a comprehensive list of valuable links and lesson plans.

The New York Times Learning Network  What can you expect from the New York Times Learning Network?  The same high quality and informative information you get from their daily newspaper.  It's well-organized, easy to use, and is bound to be of use to ANYONE.  Main pages are also organized for TEACHERS, STUDENTS, and PARENTS.

Searchopolis Searchopolis has anything and everything you could ever need in the way of research and reference. It's geared mostly towards junior and high school students, but there's also some fun stuff here, too.  A great place to visit if you have a paper to write.  Students can also be sent to this site to do research on just about any topic.  A GREAT reference section!

Virtual Field Trips Vicki Blackwell's site is filled with cool stuff for students and teachers alike. Students can visit places as they go on a "virtual field trip" to points around the world.  Some even feature VR-Images, which is an interactive 360 degree picture than can be explored as if you were standing there yourself. Check it out!

Education World  This is another great site aimed particularly at educators.  Their database is categorized by subjects taught, from elementary through high school.  There's also LOTS of lesson plans and ideas!!  You're BOUND to find something useful here.

Cool Math The title says it all!  This is a relatively new site, with updates ready by the coming school year.  There's something for kids, parents, and teachers.  It's all very well-designed, easy to use, and filled with cool math stuff!!

For any teachers serious about literacy, New Zealand is the place to go for some of the most innovative and effective strategies in getting children to read and write. Did you know that New Zealand is the most literate country in the WORLD???? There was a time when I was seriously considering teaching in New Zealand, and still hope to someday.  Click on the link below to check out my New Zealand page to learn more about this fascinating land.
