Ballet Folklorico Arizona is a professional dance group. The dance group was founded in 1994 by Artistic Director Julie Gonzalez Gallego who was guided in her decision by her anticipation that it would fulfill her dream of presenting folklorico traditions of both Mexico and Arizona. This folklorico unit has performed extensively in their home-state of Arizona; However, it has also captivated audiences in California, Texas, Nevada, Colorado and Mexico, with its energetic and artistic presentations. Through the medium of dance, the group wishes to create awareness to the cultural heritage of the Southwest and therefore, does not limit itself to Mexican Folklorico but also includes in its program, Flamenco, Western Hoedowns, and other dances that would promote cultural diversity. Dancers from Ballet Folklorico Arizona are featured in the Annual Las Vegas International Mariachi Festival at the Mandalay Bay Casino Resort, as well as in the Arizona Christmas Mariachi Festival at the America West Arena in Phoenix and "International Mariachi Espectacular" at the Tucson Convention Center. "Viva Arizona" is a musical and dance production of Tucson's musical and historical past created by Julie Gallego.Ballet Folklorico Arizona dancers were cast in the movie productions "Young Guns II", "Tombstone", and "Geronimo" at the Old Tucson Famous Movie Location.
