Garland-patterned millefiori with silhouettes, Baccarat, c. 1848-55 (cat. no. 21). In this rare, complex, cinquefoil garland, each loop, centered by a large animal silhouette cane, is composed of a different type of floret. Shamrock canes are unusual in a garland, as is the upset filigree ground. The central arrow cane, however, is almost a Baccarat trademark. Baccarat garlands, usually double trefoil or circlet, are among the factory's loveliest motifs. |
