Garland-patterned millefiori, Clichy, 1845-55 Catalog 44. Clichy's glass gardeners outdid themselves in this complex garland of intertwined quatrefoils set on a froth of lacy filigree. Four quatrefoils of millefiori canes are intricately woven together, creating a sense of depth and three-dimensionality. |

Garland-patterned millefiori, Clichy, c. 1848-55 Catalog 50. A superb double quatrefoil Clichy garland, including edelweiss and rose cones, rests on a grasslike ground highlighted by tiny white stars. Although garland patterns were made by Baccarat and Saint-Louis, the vast majority were made by Clichy, which produced them on a variety of carpet grounds. Here, the deep green provides a lush background. |
