Waimea Canyon

Tuesday was a hike (or deathmarch?) in the koke'e state park in and around the Waimea Canyon. We did a nice three mile loop with only 500 foot of elevation change. The problem was that the elevation changed four times.

Along the trail next to the canyon. Note the near vertical drop off on the right side of the trail. Also note the location of the various hikers in relation to their proximity to the edge. Angela and her mother are on the far left side of the trail (away from the precipitous dropp-off) and Eric is on the right side.

Little partial-family picture along the trail. The tricky part for me was running down to the group fast enough to be in the picture, but not too fast to go over the edge. Everyone still looks happy at this point.

If I "had" to live on Kaui'i, this is where I'd live. This was near the end of our trek. By this point, I and everyone else were ready to be done. We had about 30 minutes to go.
