Water Contamination
WATER AVAILABLE TO US - Ever increasing amounts and types of toxic carcinogenic substances are now being found in our water supply. Presently, and in the forseeable future, it cannot be determined with any certainty just how safe the water supply to us is, or ever will be. Water tests are very expensive, complex and for most people not practical. Commonly performed tests are usually too general to detect specific hazardous materials. The number and types of tests required to check for such contaminations is staggering. Contamination levels can also vary from day-to-day and month-to-month. Hundreds of new chemicals are being developed every year and 70% of the chemicals developed this far are known to be definately or potentially hazardous. Many of these chemicals make their way into our water supply. Without knowing the exact content and quality of the water we are supplied with, and because the cleanliness of the water we drink cannot be assured throughout the distribution system, the most logical and practical place to ensure the quality and safety of our drinking water is at the point of consumption, in the home, office or workplace - wherever water is used. WHAT CONTAMINANTS CAN BE FOUND IN DRINKING WATER??? THM's and CHLORINE - Many municipal water systems use chlorine to eliminate bacteria but recent studies show that chlorine can ract with organic material in water to form chemicals called Trihalomethanes (THM's). One of these THM's is chloroform, a suspected cancer causing agent. LEAD - The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that lead in drinking water can cause serious health problems. At low levels, reduced birth weight, premature birth, delayed mental and physical development and impaired mental abilities in children in general may result. At high levels of exposure, anemia, kidney damage and mental retardation LEAD -can occur. RADON - Radon is a naturally occuring radioactive gas that has no taste, odor or color. Waterborne radon released into the air from showers, washing machines, etc., can be inhaled and increase the risk of lung cancer. There is also accumulating evidence of a relationship between the ingestion of radon in drinking water and increased risk of stomach cancer. INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS - Though necessary in manufacturing, many chemicals, if ingested may cause increased risk of cancer and other illnesses. Some of the industrial chemicals that now threathen the purity of our drinking water include polychlorinated biphenyl's (PCB's), poly nuclear aromatice (PNA's), and volatile organic chemicals (VOC's), such as TCE, bemzene and carbon tetrachloride. OTHER PARTICULAR CONTAMINANTS - Small fibers of asbestos, dirt and other particles often can be found in drinking water. NOTE: No information exsists to show that the examples described above pertain to your specific drinking water system or supply. The Pure Water Plus PWP1800 Water Purification System will greatly reduce or eliminate the following contaminants in water:
