The Valley Garden Center is a totally
self-supporting, private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose
is:
|
| The Center carries out its purpose
on a beautifully landscaped three acre facility featuring colorful gardens,
a koi pond, and many mature trees surrounding the spacious Club House.
It is located 1/2 mile north of Interstate 10, 1 mile east of Interstate 17, and only five miles northwest of Sky Harbor International Airport. |
| One of only two similarly self-supporting
bodies in the United States, the Valley Garden Center was incorporated
in July 1939. At the end of 1946, a lease was signed with the City
of Phoenix Parks Board for a section of land south of Encanto Park.
The Center's building was completed and dedicated in January 1949.
It includes two banquet/meeting rooms, a kitchen, restrooms and changing
areas, in addition to a large patio area.
The building and gardens -- including a nationally accredited rose garden -- are available for weddings, receptions, anniversaries, business meetings, club meetings, lectures, and other functions at reasonable fees. This provides nonmembers the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Center and helps defray the cost of operations. Providing meeting space for garden clubs and plant societies is one of the ways the Center supports gardening in the Metropolitan area. The gardens are open to the public at no charge. Currently there are ten Active and nine Associate clubs belonging to the VGC. A portion of club dues goes towards the Center, which also holds a library of about 1,400 volumes on horticulture, design, gardening and related subjects. These are available to members of our Clubs. In addition to the books that may be checked out, there is a "Reference Only" section. |
