Children of Bud MULLINS Generation No. 1
1. Bud1 MULLINS was born Bet. 1758 - 1759 in North Carolina, and died Abt. 1856 in Paulding County, Georgia. He married Unknown Spouse(s) Abt. 1788 in GA or SC. She died Bet. 1840 - 1846 in Georgia. Notes for Bud MULLINS: 08/27/1998 Bud's first children were all born in South Carolina. Bud moved his family from South Carolina to Georgia between 1807 - 1808, according to the birth records on later census of his children. There is no census for Georgia in 1810 available.
11/29/1998 In the book WHITES AMONG the CHEROKEES, edited by Mary B. Warren, 1987, pg. 299, in a letter from H. Montgomery: Sir: I have received Certificates that the following persons have either moved or are actually Removing within the settled Limits of the State (of Georgia) ..., Bud Mullins, John Mires, ... (Dated 24 July, 1817) 11/30/1998 Bud's Revolutionary War Application was #R7485. Clement's was #R7486. What does this mean? 01/20/2000 In the 1800 Spartanburg County, SC census Bud Mullins (#191) is enumerated next to Lone Mullins (#192) and both of them state that their ages are between 26/45 years. Bud is listed as 30010-11100-00. This would be indicate that there were 3 males under 10, Bud between 26 - 45 years old and one female under 10, one between 10 -16, and one between 16 - 26 (this would be his wife). Malone Mullins was living in Georgia at this time, so who could this Lone Mullins be? 01/22/200 In Bud's Revolutionary War Application he states that he served under Captain Thomas Gregory, and in the Battalion commanded by Major Robert Mayburn in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Butler. He entered the service of the United States in Chatham County, NC, on a date he cannot remember, but he fought in one battle near the Haw River, in Chatham County. In the Chatham County, NC, Court Minutes, 1781 - 1785, there is a Thomas Mullins mentioned regarding debt. In an email sent to me by forrestm@unicomp.net, Forrest states: "The Thomas of Chatham Co., NC who was involved in maintaining roads and found to owe a debt to John Copeland's estate during the years 1783-85 is definitely not the Thomas of Franklin Co., NC, who was the father of Jeremiah, Nathaniel, & Clement later of GA and MS. I don't know who his father was but it might, might I say, be the John of Guilford Co., NC whose wife was named Elizabeth and who sold land to Flower Swift in 1780. At least that John sold 140 acres from a grant he received in 1761 to a Thomas Mullins for 10 pounds (Guilford Co., NC Deed Book 1, 11 May 1772, p. 123). This Thomas of Chatham Co., NC- to be assigned to do road work-is a much younger man and living in the same area as Thomas Gregory (Bud's Militia Captain) puts him where Bud would have been. It is tempting to speculate that, in fact, he might even be Bud." 02/06/2000 We are not sure what year Bud left Chatham County, NC, but there were no Mullins Families living in the Hillsborough District of Chatham County when the 1790 census was taken.

Children of Bud MULLINS and Unknown Spouse(s) are: 2 i. Rebecca2 MULLINS, born Abt. 1789. She married CHILDERS. Notes for Rebecca MULLINS: 03/20/2001 On the 1850 Cobb County, Georgia, Federal Census, 115-12th district: Martin Childers 1792 SC Elizabeth Childers 1798 SC (In my research this becomes a problem, as I show her born about 1789.) F Eliza 1830 G M Martin 1832 GA F Aurella 1834 GA M Emsley 1836 GA M Lewis 1838 GA These same people were listed in same district not living with Martin Childers: M Benjamin L. Childers 1825 SC F E.C. 1834 SC M James Childers 1823 SC From this census information it would indicate the Martin and Elizabeth were not married until around 1826-1829. This is not our family and should probably be erased from this record. From the 1834 State Census of Cobb County we have Burgis (sic) with 8 people, Buda (sic) with 3, Ausburn (sic) with 9, and Samuel Mullins with 4 in household. There was no Childers listed. Notes for CHILDERS: 04/01/2001 From "Gone to Georgia", pg. 52, item # 217: "John Childers (220001-11210-0) (This the the 1820 Federal Census for Jackson County, GA. This interprets John as over 45, with his wife or his oldest girl 26-45) "In 1799, Thomas Childress was living on Crooked Creek, on land originally granted to Geroge Stewart. This family, in Henrico County, Va., by 1689, worked its was west and south in Virginia and then down into South Carolina. William and Thomas Childree came from South Carolina to Georgia and were granted land on Rocky Comfort Creek Oct. 15-Nov. 22, 1773. By 1827, a Thomas Childers, Revolutionary soldier, was living in Walton County, Ga., and was granted Coweata County land, drawn in the 1827 lottery, on Dec. 19 1831. (See pension papers of Thomas Childress, Ga. (Va.) S 3147). Doughlas Childers (No. 226) was enumerated in Gwinnett County in 1820 and he and William J. Childers were in the 1827 lottery there. At least some of the family in Oglethorpe County were from Amherst County, Va. (See pension papers of Goldsby Childers, Va., S30924, and Oglethorpe wills of John T. Goolsby and Sarah Childress, Will Book B, pps. 4, 48). A Childers family from York County, S.C., remained for a time in Georgia, c1826, and then removed to Walker County, Ala." 1820 Federal Census, Gwinnett County, GA, pg. 266, line 7: Childers, Douglas 300010-10010. This gives them both ages 26-45, which ties into Rebecca being born in 1789, and in 1820 would have been 31. REPRINT of OFFICIAL REGISTER of LAND LOTTERY OF GEORGIA 1827 61st DAY'S DRAWING-May 16. More About CHILDERS: Census: 1820, Gwinnett County, GA 3 ii. Thomas MULLINS, born 1791 in South Carolina3; died 1861 in Paulding County, Georgia. Notes for Thomas MULLINS: 02/06/2000 Thomas, as well as Bud, seem to have a terrible time with their ages. In the 1850 Federal Census for Cobb County, Bate's District, he and Bud are living alone together, Bud lists his age as 80 (he is really 92) and Thomas lists his age as 52 (he is really 59). In 1830 the only Thomas Mullins enumerated in Georgia was in Talbot County. Also a John Mullins and a Lewis Mullis were there. In this listing Thomas is between 40-50, his oldest daughter 20-30, and a girl between 10-15, one boy and one girl 5-10 and 2 boys and 2 girls under 5. This cannot be our Thomas Mullins. In 1860, Federal Census, Paulding County, pg. 142 (pg 849 of film), taken on July 21, 1860, line 24: Tho's Mullins, age 69, Farmer, born SC, Real Value $250, Person Value $1,250, can Read & Write. In 1860 Census there was a Slave Analysis of Paulding County. This was done by W.A. Foster, Jr. and resides in the Atlanta, Georgia Library. In it, Thomas Mullins has 2 slaves: one female age 65, and one male age 30, both living in one house. 02/11/2000 Per Forrest, a Thomas Mullins sold his property in Talbot County, Ga in 1837. He would have had 6 children between the ages of 7 and 17. Nancy MULLINS, born Abt. 1793 in South Carolina; died September 05, 1870 in Walker County, AL. She married John C. MYERS I4; born January 04, 1794 in Elbert County, Georgia; died in Walker County, AL. More About Nancy MULLINS: Burial: Lindsey Cemetery, Walker County, AL Notes for John C. MYERS I: 11/29/1998 In the book WHITES AMONG the CHEROKEES, edited by Mary B. Warren, 1987, pg. 299, in a letter from H. Montgomery: Sir: I have received Certificates that the following persons have either moved or are actually Removing within the settled Limits of the State (of Georgia) ..., Bud Mullins, John Mires, ... (Dated 24 July, 1817) 03/07/2000 She and John were in Walker Co., AL in 1850, page 308, HH# 114. All their children are grown and John's mother is living with them. John is 57 and so is Nancy, which gives her a birth date of 1793--just as I figured! In this 1850 Census John is listed as John C. Myary (in the index as Myarcy). See the difficulty? John's mother is Sarah (Roberson) Myers, 78.

He married (Mullins); died Bef. 1860. Notes for Elias MULLINS: 01/24/2000 In looking at various Georgia Censuses the picture becomes very cloudy. In 1820 there was an Elias Mullins age 26-45 (b. 1775-1794) enumerated in Hall County, GA. He had a wife between 16-26 and 4 children under 10, 3 girls and 1 boy. Also enumerated in Hall County that year was Bud Mullins age 26-45, and Osburn Mullins age 16-26. In 1830 Elias Mullins was listed on pg. 203 of Campbell County, age 40-50 (b. 1780-1790), and lots of children: 2 boys under 5, 1 between 5-10, 1 boy 10-15, and one 20-30, and 1 girl under 5, 1 5-10, 2 girls 10-15, and one 20-30. Also enumerated in Campbell County that year were Samuel Mullins, his brother, on pg. 201, age 20-30, Bud Mullins, his father, on pg. 208, age 80-90, and Clement Mullins, another brother, on pg. 199, age 30-40. In the 1860 Census, Hamilton County, Tennessee, District 8, #057 he lists his age as 60, born in SC. All children's names and ages were taken from this census, and all were born in GA. This Elias should be about 66. If this is the Elias, son of Bud, then he must have married again. This cannot be our Elias as all of his prior children are missing. I believe the these three censuses represent an Elias Mullins that has a problem with his age. 01/24/2000
Elias and his family are in Walker Co., GA, for the 1840 census. Wm Thedford, Ast Marshal 24 Oct 1840 pg 89 Elias Mullins 1021001 - 0222101. This gives him 11 children, with only 1 girl between 20-30, and his an his wifes ages are between 40-50. 02/16/2001 From Mary Scott on the Internet: _____ 2f. Elias Mullins was born about 1800 in SC and died after 1860 probably in TN. There is an EIias Mullins enumerated in Hall County, GA in 1820 and in Campbell County, GA in 1830. In the 1860 Hamilton County, TN federal census, district 8, fimlily 057, he lists his age as 60. All children's names and ages were taken from this census. Children of Elias Mullins and ? are: 3a. Melissa Mullins born about 1839 in GA. 3b. William Mullins born about 1840 in GA. 3c. Middleton Mullins born about 1841 in GA. 3d. John W. Mullins born about 1843 in GA. 3e. James M. Mullins born about 1843 in GA3. 3f. F.M. Mullins born about 1844 in GA. 3g. Martha J. Mullins born about 1846 in GA. 3h. Sarah Mullins born about 1847inGA. 3i. James Mullins born about 1848 in GA. 3j. Mary A. Mullins born about 1849 in GA.

In 1820 Osburn was enumerated in Hall County along with other Mullins, including Bud. Osburn was between 16-26, his wife the same, and he had one son and 3 daughters under 10. If this is our same Osborn his age should have been at best 23! In 1826 (January 7, 1826) Osburn deeded to Daniel Hammond of Hall County for $50 on the waters of Shoal Creek, 125 acres. This was recorded in Hall County, Book B. Page 419, and recorded May 28, 1828. In 1827 Osburn, living in Howell's District of DeKalb County, GA, received land in the lottery in Muscogee County, GA, number 126 on the draw. In 1830 Ozburn was enumerated in DeKalb County. Note here that Indian Lands were he lived was eventually to become Cobb County, but in the late 1820's and the 1830 census all residents were listed as residing in DeKalb County. In 1830 Ausbern Mullens was enumerated in Carroll County. The future Paulding and part of Cobb County residents were enumerated in Carroll County in 1830. (10001-200001) He is between 20-30, she 30-40. In April, 1835 Osborn Mullins is serving on the Superior Court Grand Jury for Cobb County, GA. In 1840 Federal Census, pg 254, 846th District of Cobb County, GA: his age is listed as between 30-40, his wife the same, and male children, 2 between 10-15, 1 5-10 and 1 under 5, no female children. This person could be the one in Hall County in 1820.
On the Cobb County, GA, 1850 Federal Census, Baits District, Osborn (age 45) has no wife and 6 children living with him. These could be his children. But also living with him is "Willie" Mullins, male, age 47, giving a birth year of about 1803. Listed on the census are all of the children living with Osborn and Willie. The children's names and their approximate birth years are: Mahaley (1825), Elizabeth (1830), Budd (1831), Reuben (1835), John (1837), and Frances J. (1841). We do know that Budd is his son, because he was mentioned in Osburn's father's will. I wonder if "Willie is his wife and that the census taker accidentaly wrote male instead of female. This would mean that she/he was born about 1802-1803, and had her children beginning at about the age of 14, in order to have 4 children under 10 years old by 1820. 02/16/2001 In the book "The First Hundred Years - A Short History of Cobb, County, in Georgia, by Sarah Blackwell Gober Temple, pg. 49, in chapter VI, Pioneer Families, lists settlers arriving from late 1832 to 1840: "...J. D. Mullins, Osborn Mullins and Samuel Mullins." More About Osborn MULLINS: Census 1: 1820, Hall County, GA Census 2: 1830, Cobb/DeKalb, County, GA Census 3: 1834, State Census - Cobb County, GA Census 4: 1850, Cobb County (Bait's District), GA Land Lottery: 1827, Given land in Muscogee County, GA 7 vi. Burgess MULLINS, born Abt. 1799 in South Carolina6. He married (1) Rebecca BARTON. He married (2) Patience (Mullins). Notes for Burgess MULLINS: 01/28/1998 In the 1834 State Census, Cobb County, GA, Burgis Mullins is listed with 8 whites. The other people listed in that same county were Buda Mullins, 3 whites, John D. Mullins, 2 whites, and Ausburn Mullins, 9 whites. 02/16/2001 From Mary Scott on the Internet: ______ 2e. Burgess Mullins born about 1799 in SC. In the 1830 Greenville County, SC federal census there is a Burgess Mullins enumerated in the Greenville District. It is thought by Burgess Mullins descendants that this is our Burgess. There was a Burgis/Burgois Mullins enumerated in Cobb County, GA in the 1834 state census. He was located in Walker County, GA in the 1850 federal census, district 12, page 319, family 270. He was listed as a farmer. Also listed next as family 271 was Buddy E. Mullins age 20, farmer, born in SC and living with "in' was Mary (L?) age 16 born in AL and William W. born AL, age unknown. In 1860, in the Walker County, AL federal census there is a Burgess Mullens. According to Burgess Mullins descendant, Jean Gibbons, this is our Burgess. According to Jean Gibbons, there was a child born to Burgess and Rebecca Barton Robbins in 1858. Rebecca Barton Robbins was the daughter of Moses Barton from SC and had been married to John Robbins. The Moses Robbins of the 1860 census was a child from that marriage. The 1850 census shows her with husband and other children In the 1870 Falls County, TX federal census there is a listing for a Brutus Mullins age 70, occupation farm labor, born in SC. Listed with him are Rebecca Mullins age 55, keeping house, born TN; Sacramento/Samantha age 12, attending school, born AL; and Sam Mullins age 37, occupation farm labor, born GA. If Burgess was born in 1799, the age is about right. Rebecca, in the 1860 Walker County, AL census was 46, born in TN. Sam in 1850 was 15, born GA. If Samantha was born in 1858, then this fits for our Burgess. Children of Burgess Mullins and Patience ? Mullins are: 3a. Nancy Mullins born in 1830 in GA. 3b. Samuel R. Mullins born in 1835 in GA. 3c. William T. Mullins born in 1837 in GA. 3d. Franklin Mullins born in 1838 in GA. 3e. Ester F. Mullins born in 1838 in GA. 3f. James B. Mullins born in 1840 in GA. 3g. Catherine Mullins born 1841 in GA. 3h. Josephine Mullins born in 1843 in GA. 3i. JohnMullins born about 1845 inGA. 3j. Lafayette Mullins born about 1847 in GA. Child of Burgess Mullins and Rebecca Barton Robbins Mullins: 3k. Samantha Mullins born in 1858 in AL.

Notes for Reuben MULLINS: 02/06/2000 Reuben is listed in the 1840 Cobb County, GA, Federal Census, pg. 257, in the 846th District: 30-40 years old, wife 30-40 also, one son 5-10, 2 sons under 5, one daughter 5-10, one daughter under 5. This would give him a birth year between 1800-1810. His birth place is yet to be determined, as no research, at least by me has been done on Reuben. He has not been found after 1840. He is enumerated one page away from Bud (0000001001 - 0000000001) and Ausborn Mullins (112001 - 0021001). Ausborn lists his age as beteen 30-40 and his wife as 40-50.
